In Artemida near Athens, an estimated 250–300 cats (as of 2026) along with a few dogs and rabbits are cared for daily with food, water and medical treatment – across private care locations, a farm and several feeding colonies. For foundations, companies and associations this question comes first. So here it is up front: the initiative itself is not a registered association. Donations and rehoming are handled through a registered German partner association.
Donations through this account are tax-deductible in Germany. The current tax exemption certificate is provided on request.
Funds are earmarked via the payment reference, for example „Griechenland“, „Kastration Griechenland“ or the name of a specific cat.
We provide receipts, cost breakdowns and contact persons for due diligence, and agree the reporting format and period in advance. A first conversation takes about 15 minutes.

Care takes place in the Artemida/Athens region: a farm, several private care locations and outdoor feeding colonies. Exact locations are not published, to protect the animals and private households.
The largest ongoing item: dry and wet food for all care locations and colonies – every day, in any weather. Four pet food shops already grant discounts; the quantities remain considerable nonetheless.
Examinations, medication, operations and emergencies. Two partner practices treat at reduced rates.
Documented: 32 invoices totalling €3,954.70 between 23 March and 20 July 2026 – around €1,000 per month.
The most effective lever against growing animal suffering: every neutering prevents new litters on the street – and permanently reduces the cost of food and treatment.

Feeding keeps animals alive. Neutering stops new ones from constantly arriving. That is why neutering is not a side task for us, but the most effective use of every euro donated.
An unneutered pair of cats can produce a double-digit number of offspring within a few years. Each of those animals then needs food, water and medical care every day – permanently.
Every neutering reduces future food requirements and future veterinary costs. Funding a neutering is therefore not a recurring expense but a one-off investment that permanently lowers the need.

Colony cats not yet neutered
All animals in the free-living colonies would need to be neutered. So far the funds for this are lacking.
Every cat living permanently with Margo – on the farm, in the family home, at the second residence or at the surf school – is neutered. In the free-living colonies this has so far happened only where an animal needed medical treatment anyway. By Margo's estimate, around 150 colony cats are still unneutered.
The reason is not a lack of willingness but a lack of money. At the stated flat rate of €50, this would amount to a funding need of roughly 7.500 € – a rough order of magnitude, not a fixed budget, since Margo has not yet set a timeframe or a specific campaign.
Support colony neuteringWith €50 you fund a single neutering – independent of any larger campaign, possible at any time.
Every neutering is recorded with date, animal and practice. On request, funders receive a list of the procedures financed from their contribution.

Rehoming runs through Murka-Katzenhilfe e. V.; the initiative brings together care, documentation and local availability.
Openly stated: The Margo Animal Care Initiative is not itself a registered association. Donations therefore run through our partner association Murka-Katzenhilfe e. V. – with the advantage that they are tax-deductible there. How the allocation to Margo's work functions is explained in the next section.
Donations run through the account of Murka-Katzenhilfe e. V. The association does not use sub-accounts but works with earmarked payments – allocation happens via the payment reference.
